Spring Cleaning for Your Body

Spring Cleaning isn’t just for houses. A good spring cleanse for the body will rejuvenate you physically, just as spring cleaning in the house lifts your spirits and clears your environment. Try this detoxifying bath to help your body dispose of toxins and soothe the skin. Start with a dry brushing of your skin. Use a natural loofah to rub your dry body, always in the direction towards the heart. Then enter a warm bath which has ½ pound of sea salt and one pound of baking soda added to it. Soak for at least 15 minutes. End with a vigorous toweling off and a light moisturizer such as Barefoot Secret's Moisture Lotion.

Dry Brushing
The skinny on skin brushing
Dry brushing is a great way to improve circulation, enhance the immune system, and revitalize the nervous system. It’s a great (and really cheap) treatment for cellulite and fluid-retention, lagging energy levels, and sore muscles. It will get rid of dead skin cells and allow your skin to breathe more efficiently, helping your body function more efficiently.

Start with a dry body brush or mitt made of natural fibres (such as loofah, jute or hemp) – these can be found in just about any natural grocery store or large drugstore.

Start at the bottom (the soles of your feet) and work upwards with a gentle, circular massage always in the direction of the heart. Be sure to pay close attention to the rougher parts – the elbows and knees and feet – and always work towards the center of your body. Finish off with a shower or bath and enjoy the multitude of benefits your body will receive from incorporating this small self-care act into your daily routine.

Body brushes should be shaken out after each brushing session and washed with warm water and a gentle soap about once a week or so.

Facts on our Germicide disinfectant

Barefoot's Germicide is a concentrated quaternary ammonium-based germicide and cleaner. This germicide disinfects and deodorizes as it cleans, and does not contain ingredients such as chlorine, phenol or glutaraldehyde.

All claims we make regarding the effectiveness of Barefoot's Germicide are for hard non- porous surfaces with a contact time of ten minutes in the single dilution ratio of 1:256 (or ½-oz. per gallon of water) in accordance with EPA requirements.

As Barefoot's Germicide is a disinfectant, cleanser, and deodorizer, no additional products are needed. In this respect, our germicide is an economical, labor-saving product. From a safety point of view, Basic-G's multiple functions also eliminate any potential concern of accidentally mixing incompatible products and creating a dangerous mixture.

Barefoot's Germicide & Lysol- comparison

While we are aware that the manufacturers of Lysol offer a variety of disinfectants for use in the home, as well as other environments such as hospitals, we are not familiar with the exact formulations of these products. For this reason, we are reluctant to do comparisons with other products of this type. Generally speaking, however, disinfectants which are "hospital-grade" tend to use much stronger germicidal ingredients than household germicides, as Barefoot's Gerrmicide is.

In formulating Barefoot's Germacide as a household germicide, we offered a balance of product strength against the type of ingredients used in the product. While our germicide is effective against a greater number of different types of pathogens than other disinfectants of the same type, it is not considered a "hospital-grade" product. On the other hand, Barefoot's Geremicide does not contain chlorine (a water contaminant), phenol, glutaraldehyde, or
other harsher ingredients which are often found in many disinfectants today.

Barefoot's Germicide is a concentrated quaternary ammonium-based germicide and cleaner. This germicide disinfects and deodorizes as it cleans, and does not contain ingredients such as chlorine, phenol or glutaraldehyde. Although designed as a general household disinfectant, it may be utilized in a wide variety of environments as long as its use is consistent with labeling, and in compliance with federal, state and local requirements. All claims we make regarding the effectiveness of Barefoot's Germicide are for hard non-porous surfaces with a contact time of ten minutes in the single dilution ratio of 1:256 ( or ½-oz. per gallon of water) in accordance with EPA requirements.

While Barefoot's Germicide works as a disinfectant, it is not a sterilant, nor does it have sterilant functionality. Moreover, our germicide is not considered to be a "hospital-grade" disinfectant, and no claims of effectiveness can be made against the tuberculosis mycobacterium or hepatitis virus. Therefore, its appropriateness for use in a hospitals and other medical facilities will depend upon what the requirements are for these establishments.

Barefoot's Germicide is not registered as a general sanitizer or as a food contact sanitizer, and does not fit the FDA definition for a food contact sanitizer because it contains a dye and fragrance. Hence, we cannot recommend its use as a cleanser or final rinse for dishware in a restaurant. Many states have a clearly defined three-step procedure for sanitizing dishware which does not include rinsing again after the final rinse. As Barefoot's Germicide leaves a residue on all surfaces on which it is applied, the dishware would have to be rinsed off with clean potable water in order to ensure no residue is left on the surface.

Barefoot's Germicide kills 32 pathogens while Lysol only kills 8 pathogens.

Barefoot's Germicide is effective against the following pathogens (6/96):

Summertime Skin Protection

The days are getting longer, filled with more sun and summer fun. Drag out those flip flops..It's time to get the skin ready to be seen.

For those dry patches of skin- try Shaklee's wonderful herbal blend "green cream" as I call it. Tough Skin Deserves a Soft Solution, Dry, chapped, rough skin is no match for this soothing cream, which softens even the hardest, callused skin on knees, elbows, and feet. Its cooling, mentholated, non-greasy formula vanishes as you massage it in, leaving skin feeling smooth and refreshed. http://www.shaklee.net/barefoot/product/31751

Enfuselle SPF 30 for the body is designed for all skin types, including the most sensitive skin, this patented, waterproof, oil-free sunscreen smoothes easily into your skin and absorbs quickly, without leaving a sticky residue. Soothing and moisturizing, it does not irritate the skin. Patented Vital-Repair+® contains antioxidant vitamins and botanicals. Lip Treatment SPF 15 Soothing Lip Care Drenched with vitamins C and E, calendula extract, and moisturizing plant oil, this nourishing lip treatment softens vulnerable lips while SPF 15 provides UV protection. Smoothes vertical dryness lines and prevents peeling and chapping. http://www.shaklee.net/barefoot/product/32517

Pesticide Protection- Going barefoot may seem blissful, but remember 80% of what touches the skin enters your body. I'm probably the first to take off my shoes and go barefoot. At our farm I know it's safe... we use only natural safe products!

Here's my confession... when I travel it is a different story... many hotels spray bedroom carpets- and especially bathroom floors- with pesticide's to keep bugs at bay. May I make a suggestion... when you travel pack your slippers or flip flops while you're on the road to avoid exposure from potentially harmful elements!
