Facts on our Germicide disinfectant

Barefoot's Germicide is a concentrated quaternary ammonium-based germicide and cleaner. This germicide disinfects and deodorizes as it cleans, and does not contain ingredients such as chlorine, phenol or glutaraldehyde.

All claims we make regarding the effectiveness of Barefoot's Germicide are for hard non- porous surfaces with a contact time of ten minutes in the single dilution ratio of 1:256 (or ½-oz. per gallon of water) in accordance with EPA requirements.

As Barefoot's Germicide is a disinfectant, cleanser, and deodorizer, no additional products are needed. In this respect, our germicide is an economical, labor-saving product. From a safety point of view, Basic-G's multiple functions also eliminate any potential concern of accidentally mixing incompatible products and creating a dangerous mixture.

Barefoot's Germicide & Lysol- comparison

While we are aware that the manufacturers of Lysol offer a variety of disinfectants for use in the home, as well as other environments such as hospitals, we are not familiar with the exact formulations of these products. For this reason, we are reluctant to do comparisons with other products of this type. Generally speaking, however, disinfectants which are "hospital-grade" tend to use much stronger germicidal ingredients than household germicides, as Barefoot's Gerrmicide is.

In formulating Barefoot's Germacide as a household germicide, we offered a balance of product strength against the type of ingredients used in the product. While our germicide is effective against a greater number of different types of pathogens than other disinfectants of the same type, it is not considered a "hospital-grade" product. On the other hand, Barefoot's Geremicide does not contain chlorine (a water contaminant), phenol, glutaraldehyde, or
other harsher ingredients which are often found in many disinfectants today.

Barefoot's Germicide is a concentrated quaternary ammonium-based germicide and cleaner. This germicide disinfects and deodorizes as it cleans, and does not contain ingredients such as chlorine, phenol or glutaraldehyde. Although designed as a general household disinfectant, it may be utilized in a wide variety of environments as long as its use is consistent with labeling, and in compliance with federal, state and local requirements. All claims we make regarding the effectiveness of Barefoot's Germicide are for hard non-porous surfaces with a contact time of ten minutes in the single dilution ratio of 1:256 ( or ½-oz. per gallon of water) in accordance with EPA requirements.

While Barefoot's Germicide works as a disinfectant, it is not a sterilant, nor does it have sterilant functionality. Moreover, our germicide is not considered to be a "hospital-grade" disinfectant, and no claims of effectiveness can be made against the tuberculosis mycobacterium or hepatitis virus. Therefore, its appropriateness for use in a hospitals and other medical facilities will depend upon what the requirements are for these establishments.

Barefoot's Germicide is not registered as a general sanitizer or as a food contact sanitizer, and does not fit the FDA definition for a food contact sanitizer because it contains a dye and fragrance. Hence, we cannot recommend its use as a cleanser or final rinse for dishware in a restaurant. Many states have a clearly defined three-step procedure for sanitizing dishware which does not include rinsing again after the final rinse. As Barefoot's Germicide leaves a residue on all surfaces on which it is applied, the dishware would have to be rinsed off with clean potable water in order to ensure no residue is left on the surface.

Barefoot's Germicide kills 32 pathogens while Lysol only kills 8 pathogens.
