Secret EPA Deal Set To Abandon Year-End Ban of Deadly Pesticide Dursban

EPA is negotiating a Christmas present for Dow Chemical Company that allowscontinued production and use of its controversial pesticide chlorpyrifos(Dursban) for home termite use three years beyond an announced phase-out,which was to begin December 31, 2004. Washington, DC, December 20, 2004 - EPA is said to be secretly negotiating adeal with the Dow Chemical Company to extend a major use of theircontroversial and hazardous insecticide chlorpyrifos (trade name Dursban). The agency, according to sources, appears poised to grant Dow Chemical athree-year extension on a planned phase-out for termite use on new homesannounced as a part of a major reduction in residential uses in June 2000.The phase-out of remaining termite uses was to take effect at the end ofthis year, by December 31, 2004, when production was to stop, followed by ause prohibition to take effect at the end of 2005. With much fanfare in June 2000, EPA announced the end of chlorpyrifos forresidential uses because of concerns associated with neurotoxic effects inchildren. EPA said, "Through this review, EPA has determined thatchlorpyrifos, as currently used, does not provide an adequate margin ofprotection for children. This action adds a greater measure of protectionfor children by reducing/eliminating the most important sources ofexposure... Over the next several years, remaining uses, including spot andlocal termiticide treatments and pre-construction termiticide applications, will be phased out." (See "Questions and Answers for Consumers about Chlorpyrifos," June 8, 2000.) Since its 2000 announcement, EPA has notdisclosed new data justifying continued exposure to a chemical that theagency has linked to adverse health effects, particularly in children. However, sources say that a new Dow risk assessment finds "acceptable"risks, while EPA does not have new indoor air monitoring data on treatedhomes, which experts say is necessary in reassessing risk and reversing itsearlier agreement with Dow. Advocates question why these issues have notbeen resolved since the announced phase-out in 2000 and before this week's deadline. "If EPA proceeds with this deal, it is shirking its basic responsibility to protect children and the public from hazardous pesticides like chlorpyrifos and only serving the interests of Dow Chemical," said Jay Feldman, executive director of Beyond Pesticides, a national environmental and public healthgroup based in Washington, DC. "There are widely available alternatives which make this hazardous chemical simply unnecessary," he said. 2000 square foot home requires that 380 gallons of pesticide be pumpedinto the ground. In a 100-home subdivision, about 38 thousand gallons are used. Pre-construction termiticide use is estimated at 400 million gallons. As an alternative approach, borates can be applied directly to wood during the dried-in phase of construction, saving the builder time and money and providing termite protection for as long as the wood is in service.Borate-based products exhibit low toxic exposure to humans and other mammals. Other alternatives include steel mesh barriers and steel termiteshields under and around foundations. Anti-bacterial Soaps... Do they help or hurt?

I always have always felt that a pH balanced soap like Barefoot Secret's Hand and Body Wash keeps you washing the germs away, and keeps the acid mantle protection on our skin that is so important for our own body's defense system.

Here is some information from Beyond Pesticides, that goes along with my feelings why not to use Anti-bacterial Soaps!

"Triclosan is found in hundreds of common everyday products, including nearly half of all commercial soaps. It is used so frequently that Triclosan has made its way into the human body....a Swedish study found Triclosan in human breast milk in three out of five women."

Numerous studies have found that Triclosan promotes the emergence of bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics. There is good evidence that with the continued wide spread use of Triclosan, antibiotic resistance will become increasingly problematic.

The article really hits it on the head....this stuff is in your bathmat, your towels etc....they are putting it everywhere....some sheets and blankets have it.

I don't want my new babies having this stuff for dinner do you?

Did you know 80% of what is put on your skin asorbs into your body? It's really kind of scary if you think about it...

Why Barefoot's Herbal Product is so important.....

Editors Note: Due to the manufacturer's guidlines I'm unable to post the name of the manufacturer or the trade marked names of the products I'm writing about, but when you click on any of the links it will take you to the manufacturer's site so you will know who it is.

Hint.... To learn the company I write about just click a link and the mystery is solved...

I had the opportunity to listen in on a call last night from our upline Master Coordinator. (top of the "secret" company) Jim Burke...

He confirmed what I have believed for years and that's my favorite product, Barefoot's Herbal Jim talked about how "Herbal" is NOT a laxative, but a body cleanser. It cleanses the NODES, colon, blood, liver, kidneys.

Dr.(name of manu) spent 8 years researching for the formulation of this product. He made "Herbal" in the early 40's because he knew that people were not eating enough fiber foods and too much processed foods and we were going to be in BIG trouble with degenerative diseases.

Remember, every major disease starts in the colon and intestines. "Herbal" is a wonderful body cleanser. We need to cleanse the inside of our bodies DAILY like we cleanse the outside. Dr. ---- called "Herbal", "Our Long Handle Toothbrush for our insides"!!

I believe like Jim believes that EVERY human being on the face of the earth needs this product DAILY. We would not have the cancers, the degenerative diseases if we kept our bodies cleansed and flushed with "Herbal". Jim Burke is a biochemist, a Master Coordinator and has done years of research in the field of nutrition. He knows what he's talking about.

Hope you take your "Herbal" tonight!!!

You know what's really weird...just yesterday I was talking to a customer on the phone and she had overheard a conversation at the Dr. Office waiting room. It was someone talking about migraines and how he has used "Herbal" 1 tablet a day for over 7 years to keep his migraines at bay. He went on to say that he has tested the product several times by stoping to take it for a few days and with out fail the migraines come back!!

This man in the waiting room was also talking about how reasonable the price is ($7.95 for 60 tablets) and how he feels that some of the medical professionials don't want people to find out about this inexpensive cure for migraines.

My customer called me and was asking if I had ever heard of people using "herbal" for migraines? Gosh it was almost like day..sha..voo.. when I heard Jim's call last night. It really does make since keep the insides clean and lots of other health problems disapear.

Oh and by the way I do know of several areas that health professionals recommend this product and other "Barefoot's Secret " products.

This Air Purifier is Amazing...

I stepped in gasoline and couldn't get the smell out of a favorite pair of shoes. I thought I'd have to throw them away. I put them next to the Air Purifier for a day and the odor was gone!!

---> Valerie Miles, Board Certified Pediatrician, says: " The --- Air purifier has been just amazing for kids with respiratory probelms, such as asthma and allergies."

Her statement is in harmony with a statement from the EPA: " Long-term health effects from repeated exposure to polluted air include some respiratory diseases, heart disease, and cancer. It is prudent to impove indoor air quality in your home, even when symptoms are not noticable!"

--> Clinical tests showed that ---Air Purifier reduced airborne mold up to 97% in only 4 days...

Discover Barefoot Household... BIODEGRADABILITY

Biodegradation may be defined as the destruction of organic chemical compounds bythe biological action of living organisms.

Ultimately, the organic matter is converted to carbon dioxide, water, inorganic salts and products associated with the normalmetabolic processes of the bacteria. Thus, in this process complex matter is generally reconverted back to its primary building blocks in nature. And the cycle continues

At Barefoot Garden, our goal is to formulate cleaning products which not only contain biodegradable cleaning agents, but with auxiliary builders (boosters) that, ultimately, undergo breakdown as well. In addition to ultimate breakdown, the speed of the biodegradation process is also a critical factor.

According to the Modified Biodegradability Test protocol developed by the OECD(Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) group of experts, any product in which at least 60% of its organic chemical load biodegrades within 28 days under standard test conditions, is not only Biodegradable, but conforms to therequirement for Readily Biodegradable status (No single standard for Biodegradabilityexists in the United States at the present time).

For the Barefoot Garden line of cleaning products, the internationally recognized Europeanstandard OECD Modified Biodegradability Test validates the claim of ReadilyBiodegradable for every product except our Germicide and Fabric Softener. For Softener , biodegradation does occur, a little too slowly (approximately 53% of materials in 28 days) to be classified as Readily Biodegradable.

Unfortunately, the current technology for our disposal for this product lacks softening agents which meet the requirements for Readily Biodegradable status. However, we remain vigilant to new technologies which may satisfy requirements for both softening effectiveness and quick biodegradation. In the case of the germicide, the germicidal ingredients are, by necessity, not readily biodegradable. If they were, they would not effectively kill or disinfect the target organisms.

This is generally true for all germicidal products. The ingredients do eventually break down and become inert after use, or when disposed of according to directions.

In summary, our cleaners are formulated with the safest, most effective, non-toxic and biodegradable ingredients available. Our continuing effort is to include thoseingredients which degrade naturally into the basic building blocks of carbon dioxide and water, thus minimizing contamination of wastewater systems, rivers and lakes.

M.D. Allergist comments on our Air Purifier

Testimonie By: Dr. Michael O'., MD

I am very enthusiastic about the "Air Purifier". I'm particularly impressed with the technology.

The system appears to have a unique ability to purify the air of odors, particulates and other contaminants including mold. What impresses me most is that the photoionization.

Ultraviolet...does so much more than hepas, electrostatics, etc. because they cleanse particulates but it actually seems that most others aren't really killing anything. We have patients who have purchased other types and have not gotten results.

This is not the same old stuff.

Especially, I think, for people having problems with molds. It is so important for people to realize that a unit that does a whole house for this price!

The price is extremely reasonable. I've had patients who have paid $400-$800 for something that does only a small amount of space and not even that as well as the Air Purifier.

We have people who go to Wal-Mart or someplace else for something cheaper, but they don't get anything that will get the job done.

For people looking for a whole house solution, the price is very reasonable! We have not found central filters very helpful. Most patients I deal with here (in the Denver metro area) and in the mountains don't have air-conditioning so a central filter for them only works six months out of the year.

They also only work when the fan is running - that stirs up even more dust and pollutants. We certainly recommend "Air purifier" for those patients who are looking for something to deal with all the contaminants, molds, particulates, odors, etc.

We are very impressed with the way it's approaching air quality problems. Mold and odor problems are serious business. Not all our patients want to treat their air, but for those who do, we feel this is the most effective solution.

I can see how, in some parts of the country, this would be an even more invaluable asset places where the humidity is higher, so molds are more prevalent. Thank you for the one page data information.

We are sharing this with our patients as we recommend the unit to them. This unique technology is really exciting and impressive.

A"Barefoot Product" Parable....

I thought I’d share this wonderful little parable that has been making the rounds in ---- in some form for many years. I hope you enjoy it…

And God populated the earth with broccoli and cauliflower and spinach and green and yellow vegetables of all kinds, so Man and Woman would live long and healthy lives.

And Satan created fast food. And brought forth the 99-cent double-cheeseburger. And Satan said to Man, "You want fries with that?"

And Man said, "Super size them." And Man gained pounds.

And God created the healthful yogurt, that woman might keep her figure that man found so fair.

And Satan froze the yogurt, and brought forth chocolate, nuts and brightly colored sprinkle candy to put on the yogurt. And woman gained pounds.

And God said, "Try my crispy fresh salad."

And Satan brought forth creamy dressings, bacon bits, and shredded cheese. And there was ice cream for dessert. And woman gained pounds.

And God said, "I have sent you heart-healthy vegetables & olive oil with which to cook them."

And Satan brought forth chicken-fried steak so big it needed its own platter. And Man gained pounds, and his bad cholesterol went through the roof.

And God brought forth running shoes, and Man resolved to lose those extra pounds.

And Satan brought forth cable TV with remote control so Man would not have to toil to change channels between ESPN and ESPN2. And Man gained pounds.

And God said, "You're running up the score, Devil".

And God brought forth the potato, a vegetable naturally low in fat and brimming with nutrition.

And Satan peeled off the healthful skin and sliced the starchy center into chips and deep-fat fried them. And he created sour cream dip also. And Man clutched his remote control and ate the potato chips swaddled in cholesterol.

And Man went into cardiac arrest.

And God sighed and created quadruple bypass surgery

And Satan created the HMO.

And God looked over the earth and the clean air given to us to breathe, the clean water given to us to drink, and all the good food given to us to eat.

And Satan’s handiwork of smokestacks, phosphates, chemical food additives and single hull oil tankers.

And lo, Man was lost in the easy temptations of Satan’s making and Man’s own shortsighted choosing.

And Satan saw and said, "It is good."

And God said "enough is enough" and whispered in Dr. ------ ear and created healthy Barefoot products—vitamins, herbs and food supplements. Air and water purifiers, biodegradable cleaners, and natural personal care products. All made in Harmony with Nature, utilizing the best of science, through a company committed to doing business by the Golden Rule. And all shared by word-of-mouth from person-to-person.

And Satan said, "I can't combat that… UNLESS!Unless I can just get them to be afraid to share ------- with others!"
